Halid K. IzzetHalid is the resident photographer at Rhubarb & Custard Photo Gallery. Having travelled and photographed over 30 different countries, Halid aspires to capture a fresh and inspiring view of the world and its people. From the amazing deserts of Utah, USA, including the infamous yet very rare photos of the petrified sand-dunes of Coyote Buttes, to the Mediterranean paradise of his birth-place of North Cyprus, his intense sensitivity to angles, colours, expressions, contrasts and textures result in an outstanding portfolio of images and emotions.

In between travel assignments, he works as Chief Photographer for Commercial Business Photography agency, Marketing Eye Photography, and co-runs the Rhubarb & Custard Photo Gallery in Eton.

Jamie Johnson
My Personal Vision

Jamie JohnsonOften times we find our passion when we least expect. As a struggling actress, I turned to photography to nourish my body and soul; it was a hobby I had enjoyed throughout my life. Then one day I photographed some children and my world changed.  Five years ago, a request by a foundation in Los Angeles to photograph the homeless families of our city, deepened my passion. More than 15,000 children in Los Angeles are homeless and I soon found myself walking the streets with my camera and capturing the lives of these “forgotten people”.

Yet despite the despair and horrendous conditions under which these children live everyday, another emotion emerged in the photographs; the sense of hope that is carried like a seed in all of us. It was time to give these children a name and tell their stories.

As well as the beautiful children of Los Angeles, I have expanded my dreams of photographing children of all countries and life styles. I have recently photographed the children from the rural villages in the jungles of Laos and orphanges of Cambodia to the slums of Bangkok and most recently the children who live in the dumps in Mexico.

My work can be seen in several galleries thru The United States and Europe. My "Portraits of Skid Row, thru the eyes of the Children"  series has won several awards this year including the Prix De La Photographie Paris 2009, Women in Photography International 2009, and honorable mention in the Berenice Abbott Award 2009 and has been shown at The Fowler Museum in Los Angeles this past May 2009. I hope to continue my journey and share my photographs with the world.

Dennis Palmer

Picture of Dennis Palmer Dennis has been taking photographs for over fifty years using a variety of techniques - starting with black and white negative film, then on to colour transparencies, which form most of his extensive photographic collection. More recently he has progressed to digital capture and processing.

Throughout this time his approach has remained basically the same. His aim is to take an image that, in some small way, captures the essence of the place or situation he finds himself in. The image exists as soon as the shutter is clicked and subsequent processing should do nothing more than make the most of it.

Dennis has had one-man shows at Windsor and Leighton Buzzard and has shown in many joint exhibitions. He also contributes to an on-line photographic library.

For this exhibition he has made prints from some of his earliest black and white negatives showing what life was like, at home and abroad, in the 1950s and early '60s. Older viewers will find them a nostalgic reminder of the time. Younger viewers will be interested in how we lived then.

John Rosewarne

Picture of John Rosewarne John Rosewarne has been interested in photography since his school days. He bought his first serious camera with the proceeds of the sale of his electric train set! As a sixth-former he designed his own enlarger, which his father then built for him.

His commitment to photography as an art form has been somewhat patchy, but during his professional life as an engineer his camera was a constant companion as the very best form of sketch pad.

The arrival of digital photography has been a fascination since his first foray into it in 2000; although he does sometimes regret the fact that he has not since then stepped inside the tiny darkroom that he built for himself in the early 80s.

John tends to regard his photographs as rather personal and has rarely shown them – indeed he had to have his arm rather severely twisted to exhibit in the Festival!
