Lady Young's talk on Oscar Nemon combines a remarkable sensitivity for the work of a major sculptor (who happened to be her father) and an acute understanding of the ways in which the turbulent history of the 20th century played itself out on an artist's career.
A Jewish émigré, he escaped to England just before WWII. An accomplished sculptor, exhibiting clay models while still at school, he studied in Vienna, Paris and Brussels. Oscar Nemon sculpted many of the the worlds well known figures amongst whom were Sigmund Freud, Dwight Eisenhower, Winston Churchill and HM The Queen.
Lady Young details his life from his birth in Osijek, Croatia, via Vienna and Brussels where he met Freud, to his final home at Boars Hill, near Oxford. No-one could tell Oscar Nemon's story better.
