2008 Susan Chilcott Scholar

Anna Patalong, from Coventry, began her studies at the University of Leeds as a pianist before changing to singing. She graduated in 2005, receiving a first for her final recital. Anna has been studying with Annette Thompson for three years and has recently joined the Masters programme at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Operatic roles to date include Susanna / Le Nozze di Figaro (Opera Brava, Northern England Players), Emmie / Albert Herring (British Youth Opera), the title role in Dido and Aeneas (Armonico Consort), Papagena / The Magic Flute (West Riding Opera), Barbarina / The Marriage of Figaro (Armonico Consort). Anna also covered the role of Bianca / La Rondine in 2008 for British Youth Opera.

Anna has sung at many major concert venues and prestigious music festivals at home and abroad, including the Birmingham Symphony Hall, St John's Smith Square, the Mostly Mozart festival, Blumenthal Festival - Tel Aviv and the Festival of Trent - Italy. On the oratorio platform she has performed the Mozart Requiem, Bach St John Passion, Vivaldi Gloria, Handel Dixit Dominus, Scarlatti Dixit Dominus, Buxtehude Membra Jesu Nostri, Pergolesi Stabat Mater, and Handel's Theodora. Anna has recently performed a series of recitals, with works including Scarlatti cantata Su le Sponde del Tebro and Bach cantata 51 Jauchzet Gott, with trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins.

Anna is grateful for the support she receives from Serena Fenwick and the Sir Richard Stapley Educational Trust. She is honoured to be a Susan Chilcott Scholar.

Picture of Elizabeth Rossiter Pianist Elizabeth Rossiter studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, gaining both Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees, many prizes and a major scholarship, and where she became the Junior Fellow in accompaniment.

She continued her postgraduate training on the accompanist course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating with Distinction, and where she became Accompaniment Fellow. During her time at Guildhall she studied with Paul Roberts, Eugene Asti and Charles Owen and was supported by awards from the Musicians' Benevolent Fund, Thomas Wall Trust, the Cordwainers Company, and the Tobacco Pipe Makers' Salzman Award. She completed her time as a repétitéur for the Guildhall Opera Course in July 2010, supported by the Worshipful Company of Habidashers, The Music Students' Hostel Trust and Norman Mims CBE and Heike Mims, and is now an associate trainee repétitéur at the National Opera Studio.
