The Complete Singer, directed by Jenny Miller, present a fully-staged production of:
The Mozart
Opera:
"Così fan tutte"
Libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte.
The Complete Singer, which promotes and develops young soloists, presents an evening of ravishing Opera by Mozart.
The performance is fully staged.
Mozart and Da Ponte took as a theme "fiancée swapping" which dates back to the 13th century.
The story takes place in Naples in the 18th century. Ferrando loves Dorabella. Guglielmo loves Fiordiligi. Their friend Don Alfonso however believes that all women are fickle. He makes a bet that when tested, their girlfriends too will show themselves to be fickle and unfaithful. They accept the wager and agree to disguise themselves and seduce each other's girlfriends. Soon doubts set in, their certainties crumble and their relationships become very complicated indeed.
Part comedy, part tragedy, it is a wry study in love, manipulation and trust. Così fan tutte is as much a "must see" for opera lovers as ever.
Performed by a talented young cast auditioned from the London music colleges. Fully costumed and staged, and sung in Italian with English sur-titles, the cast and chorus are accompanied by internationally established Glyndebourne accompanist Lesley-Anne Sammons together with a small instrumental ensemble.
Coaches:
Lesley-Anne Sammons
Nicholas Bosworth.
The Complete Singer began life in 2001 when the late Clifford Benson suggested to Jenny Miller that she run a vocal course in tandem with his own chamber music course. Over the following years Jenny Miller, with a superb and closely-knit team, evolved The Complete Singer's unique style, in which the whole singer, as artist, dramatist, vocalist and human being, is carefully nurtured, developed and sustained.
